A professional ballet dance floor provides a soft surface with some degree of traction. This minimises the chance of slipping or falling which can be common among ballet dancers on poor flooring due to the lack of grip from ballet shoes.  A softer surface aids a ballet dancer’s performance by absorbing some of the shock experienced as a result of repetitive movement, thus lessening the impact to joints and risk of injury.

Harlequin’s expert teams travel globally installing ballet flooring in a wide range of venues, from local studios to some of the world’s most prestigious venues.

Whether you want ballet flooring for your dance studiotheatre or event, take a look at our professional ballet dance floors which are suitable for a wide range of budgets:

Experience

Harlequin is widely recognised as the world’s leading authority on dance floors.  Harlequin has always worked closely with the dance community to develop floors that dancers want to dance on. Flooring products in the Harlequin portfolio have evolved to meet the specific needs of a particular dance style and have been developed in conjunction with dancers themselves.

Aware of the high injury level among dancers, Harlequin is an active supporter of IADMS (International Association for Dance Medicine and Science) and of NIDMS (National Institute of Dance Medicine and Science).  NIDMS, through shared expertise and a network of multidisciplinary partners, is working to provide better and more affordable access for all dancers to high quality, evidence-based, dance specific health care and dance science supported services.

Harlequin also provides backing and support for research work and is leading the quest for a relevant international standard for dance floors that can, in due course be referred to in specification documents.  Meanwhile the information derived from research studies already informs new product development.

We also offer stage building and refurbishment services for large-scale professional performances as well as historic buildings and ballet wagons.

Can you install my floor for me?

Our vinyl and sprung dance floors can be fitted by our highly-skilled technical team as part of our total package to ensure your new floor is correctly installed and is fully compliant with current regulations and standards. We also offer services in specialised stage building for larger venues or ballet wagons. Contact us for further information.

How do you install a Harlequin sprung floor?

This depends upon the Harlequin sprung floor you choose. Harlequin WoodSpring and Harlequin Activity and are always installed by our highly-skilled technical team. Harlequin Liberty and Harlequin Liberty HD is usually installed by us, but you can install this floor yourself as it is a modular panel system. Harlequin Flexity is designed to be a self-installed sprung floor, but we can install it for you if required. Please contact us for more details.

What sprung floors do you have in your range?

What type of surface or sub-floor can a Harlequin vinyl floor be laid on?

A Harlequin vinyl floor can be laid onto most level sub-floors, including concrete, wood or tiles, although we don’t advise laying onto carpet. If a sub-floor is not level or is unacceptably hard, then a Harlequin sprung floor can be used in conjunction with a Harlequin performance surface (vinyl floor, hardwood or engineered board). If you are worried whether your existing floor is suitable, please contact us to discuss your requirements.

How can a Harlequin vinyl floor be laid?

A permanent vinyl floor is stuck down with adhesive and can’t be removed without risking damage to the floor. A semi-permanent vinyl floor is loose-laid using double-sided tape and then welded at the seams. The seams can later be cut and the floor taken up. A portable vinyl floor is rolled out and the seams are either covered with tape or temporarily secured to the sub-floor on the underside with double-sided tape.
