Burgos and New York International Choreography Contest 2023
23rd August 2023
The Burgos and New York International Choreography Contest chose to hold its competition at the Teatro Principal de Burgos again this year with dancers competing on a Harlequin Reversible vinyl floor.
Since the Burgos & New York International Choreography Competition started in 2002, it has become a platform where each year choreographers from all over the world come together to develop an extensive programme of activities, including a competition with seven prizes, totalling €27,000.
Prizes include the Audience Award, awarded by audience voting, and the JCDCYL Award, given to a creator whose work will be performed during the tour of the Joven Compañía de Danza de Castilla y León.
On 28th July the competition winners were announced at the final gala event during the ‘dance in the theatre’ section.
This year the Italian Freelance Choreographer, Brian Scalini, won first prize with his piece called ‘Meet you in the navel’. He performed alongside dancer Camilla Bizzi with music by Tom Ashbrook.
The second prize went to Cuban choreographers Javier Peláez Faure and Miguel Álvarez Campos for their work titled ‘El síndrome de la constancia’. The third prize went to ‘Noam’, by French choreographer Jeremy Alberge. The jury’s fourth and fifth prizes went to the shows ‘Resistance Movement’, by the Polish Maciej Kuźmiński, and ‘Delicious Overdose’, by Alice Beatrice Carrino and Cristian Cucco (a piece that also won the audience award).
