BalletBoyz Celebrate 25 Years with Still Pointless

Celebrating 25 years of innovation, BalletBoyz returned to the stage with Still Pointless, a special anniversary production that honours the company’s remarkable contribution to contemporary dance. Premiering at Sadler’s Wells before embarking on a UK tour, the production revisited some of BalletBoyz’ most celebrated works alongside an exciting new commission.

Founded in 2001 by former Royal Ballet dancers Michael Nunn OBE and William Trevitt OBE, BalletBoyz have become renowned for redefining contemporary dance through bold choreography, powerful storytelling and collaborations with leading choreographers, composers and filmmakers. Over the past quarter of a century, the company has consistently challenged expectations of dance performance and introduced new audiences to the art form.

Still Pointless brings together ten world-class dancers in a retrospective journey through the company’s repertoire. The production features excerpts from works by acclaimed choreographers including Christopher Wheeldon, Russell Maliphant, Xie Xin, Javier de Frutos, Maxine Doyle, Liam Scarlett and Iván Pérez, alongside the world premiere of a new commission by Seirian Griffiths. Blending live performance with film, the production celebrates BalletBoyz’ distinctive approach to creating immersive dance experiences.

In a fitting tribute to the company’s origins, founders Michael Nunn and William Trevitt return to the stage after a 15-year retirement to perform an excerpt from Russell Maliphant’s Critical Mass, the work that inspired BalletBoyz’ original debut production, Pointless, in 2001. Their appearance provides a powerful link between the company’s beginnings and its continued artistic evolution.

Harlequin floors have been an integral part of BalletBoyz’ stage aesthetic and visual identity for many years, serving as the company’s preferred flooring for numerous stage productions and film projects. Throughout the Still Pointless UK tour, the dancers performed on a Harlequin Reversible vinyl floor, complementing the company’s dynamic choreography while meeting the physical demands of contemporary dance.

Reflecting on the company’s longstanding use of Harlequin flooring, William Trevitt, Co-Founder and Artistic Director, said: “I think it’s become intrinsic to the productions that we want to stage.”
