The Mount Without Continue Fundraising for a New Dance Dedicated Theatre
27th January 2025
The Mount Without is a creative space, formerly the Church of St Michael, for dance and events in Bristol city centre.
Co-Founded by Joshua Ben-Tovim, Roseanna Anderson, Norman Routledge and Michele Midwinter, The Mount Without is a hub for productions, dance and events.
The Mount Without has had numerous supporters over the years to help renovate the former church into the creative space that it is today. Impermanence has been a huge part of its renovation journey with the goal to ‘build a thriving dance scene in Bristol’.
This year The Mount Without plans to open a new 200 seat theatre, with the vision to become one of the most exciting dance houses in the country.
Joshua Ben-Tovim, co-founder of The Mount Without and co-director of Impermanence, said: “Roseanna and I both trained at the Rambert School so Harlequin floors have been synonymous with dance at almost every stage of our career. We’re thrilled to have installed a large sprung floor in the central area of the church and can’t wait for our Harlequin stage to take pride of place in January 2025.”
The Mount Without currently has a Harlequin Flexity sprung floor with a Harlequin Engineered Oak top surface. Joshua said: “A sprung floor is essential for dancers to feel like they can give their all in performance and training. We’ve often had to perform on hard floors and the difference you feel is night and day. Dancers push their bodies to the limit and the floor is the most important piece of equipment they use!”
Joshua, Roseanna and their team at Impermanence are currently fundraising for the new theatre space. Over the last two years they have raised £160k and only need an additional £5k before they reach their target! You can find the fundraising page here.
Every month The Mount Without has a touring production perform at the venue, providing a regular programme of dance. As well as dance events at the new theatre later this year, the venue will continue to host weddings, corporate events and other celebratory occasions.
