Malandain Ballet Biarritz presents the world premiere of Marie-Antoinette at Chateau de Versailles Royal Opera on 29th – 31st March 2019.
The new production was commissioned by Laurent Brunner, Director of musical programme Château de Versailles Spectacles on the occasion of the reopening of the Queen’s Grand Apartment after 40 months of renovation.
Choreographed by the company’s distinguished Thierry Malandain, the ballet is set to the music of Joseph Haydn and features lavish costumes and set design.
An exclusive turquoise blue Harlequin Studio performance vinyl dance floor was specially selected to set the scene. Speaking to Harlequin, Thierry Malandain said of the specialist floor: “…it creates a real climate. It is an integral part of the show.”
“When it comes to costumes, we have kept the “Marie-Antoinette” spirit because we know the audience who will come to see the piece expect this style of costume. As for the headdresses, we revisited the time with a slight shift.”
