Gen?e International Ballet Competition 2019

Harlequin was the flooring supplier for The Genée International Ballet Competition 2019, that was held in Toronto, where 60 of the worlds finest young dancers from 13 nationalities competed for the finals.

After 10 days of  intensive coaching at Canada’s National Ballet School in Toronto, 12 finalists were selected out of the 60 candidates at the Genée International Ballet Competition semi finals, at the Betty Oliphant Theatre.

The finals took place on Thursday 29th August at the Four Seasons Centre For The Performing Arts.

Gold medals were awarded to Mia Zonardo and Darrion Sellman. Silver medals were awarded to Paloma Hendry-Hodsdon and Julian Wen-Sheng Gan, who also received the Margot Fonteyn Audience Choice Award. Jessica Templeton received a bronze medal. The Choreographic Award for best Dancer’s Own variation was awarded to Ashton Parker.

The dancers were judged by Karen Kain, Dame Monica Mason DBE, Mikkon Nissinen and Magdalena Popa.

Our colleagues in America had the pleasure of attending the Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Ceremony honoring Karen Kain, National Ballet of Canada’s Artistic Director. Karen was introduced by Dame Monica Mason former Director of the Royal Ballet. Dame Monica described Karen as “Canada’s National Treasure”.
