Tap Dance Floors | Harlequin Floors

Harlequin Floors offer professional permanent tap flooring and tap dance floor solutions. Rest assured, risk of injury through repetitive strain and accidental slipping and falling will be minimised as a result of appropriate tap flooring installation. Tap dancers will also experience greater confidence to develop their talent and ability to perform.

Harlequin’s floors have been designed to meet the needs of the tap dancing community.  As a percussive dance style it is important that the flooring material of your permanent or portable tap dance floor is hard wearing, allows for effective sound projection and absorbs the shock of repetitive movement to reduce the impact on joints. There is a wide selection of tap flooring materials, colours and styles to choose from so you can rest assured that we will deliver the best portable tap dance floor for your requirements.

Our key tap dance floors are CascadeStandfastReversible ProReversible and Fiesta – each with their unique qualities. In addition to our dance floor products, Harlequin offer the option of stage building and installation services, where our team of specialists will work with your in-house designers to create a perfect stage for practice and performances.

A professional tap floor from Harlequin Floors provides a heavy duty, non-slip surface which is resilient in nature. The flooring material is capable of withstanding the shock resulting from repetitive strikes to the floor without being damaged. Floors developed for tap dancing are designed to have a longer life-span, even a portable tap dance floor.

A tap dance floor offers a degree of grip as to reduce the chances of injury due to slipping or falling but does not prevent the movement from being completed. Harlequin tap dance floors are also resonant to produce a deep, clear tone as the taps strike the floor, which helps to facilitate the performance.

Harlequin’s expert teams travel globally installing tap flooring in a wide range of venues, from local studios to some of the most prestigious venues in the world. So whether you’re looking for the best portable tap dance floor for your event, or permanent flooring for your theatre, Harlequin Floors have a suitable solution for you that will enhance performance and ensure safety.

Experience

Harlequin is widely recognised as the world’s leading authority on dance floors.  Harlequin has always worked closely with the dance community to develop floors that dancers want to dance on. Flooring products in the Harlequin portfolio have evolved to meet the specific needs of a particular dance style and have been developed in conjunction with dancers themselves.

Aware of the high injury level among dancers, Harlequin is an active supporter of IADMS (International Association for Dance Medicine and Science) and of NIDMS (National Institute of Dance Medicine and Science).  NIDMS, through shared expertise and a network of multidisciplinary partners, is working to provide better and more affordable access for all dancers to high quality, evidence-based, dance specific health care and dance science supported services.

Harlequin also provides backing and support for research work and is leading the quest for a relevant international standard for dance floors that can, in due course be referred to in specification documents.  Meanwhile the information derived from research studies already informs new product development.

We also offer stage building and refurbishment services for large-scale professional performances as well as historic buildings and ballet wagons.

Can you install my floor for me?

Our vinyl and sprung dance floors can be fitted by our highly-skilled technical team as part of our total package to ensure your new floor is correctly installed and is fully compliant with current regulations and standards. We also offer services in specialised stage building for larger venues or ballet wagons. Contact us for further information.

What type of surface or sub-floor can a Harlequin vinyl floor be laid on?

A Harlequin vinyl floor can be laid onto most level sub-floors, including concrete, wood or tiles, although we don’t advise laying onto carpet. If a sub-floor is not level or is unacceptably hard, then a Harlequin sprung floor can be used in conjunction with a Harlequin performance surface (vinyl floor, hardwood or engineered board). If you are worried whether your existing floor is suitable, please contact us to discuss your requirements.

How can a Harlequin vinyl floor be laid?

A permanent vinyl floor is stuck down with adhesive and can’t be removed without risking damage to the floor. A semi-permanent vinyl floor is loose-laid using double-sided tape and then welded at the seams. The seams can later be cut and the floor taken up. A portable vinyl floor is rolled out and the seams are either covered with tape or temporarily secured to the sub-floor on the underside with double-sided tape.
