Sara Martín, founder and artistic director of the Dance Centre, is a professional dancer and specialist in flamenco and Spanish dance. After her time as a professional dancer, and 20 years of teaching, Sara now focuses her time on her own dance school which has seen 10,000 talented dancers graduate. The two branches are both located in Madrid with a team of professional teachers who offer training on campus as well as lessons online.
With the opening of the headquarters in Madrid, Sara chose a Harlequin Flexity sprung floor with a Harlequin Reversible vinyl top surface for the dance studio.
The aim of the Sara Martín Dance Centre is to provide high quality training for all types of students, whether they are amateurs or professionals. Sara said: “We structure our classes in eight different levels so that each student receives the knowledge that corresponds to them. We want our students to learn that if they devote their energy to what they love, with discipline, sacrifice and respect, progression is inevitable.”
In the new HQ Sara wanted a dance studio that catered for a variety of dance genres. She said: “Following the recommendations from the Harlequin team, we decided to choose a Harlequin Reversible vinyl floor. The sprung floor underneath this, Harlequin Flexity, was also very important. I wanted a space where we could teach ballet but also dance genres such as flamenco.”
Sara continued: “The Harlequin sprung floor that we’ve installed is perfect for the students to practice their footwork and jumps. The sprung floor reduces the risk of injuries, which is crucial. It also has a very good sound – that’s great for our flamenco dancing!”
As well as the school, Sara hosts events through Flamenco Experiences to encourage others to start learning the art of Flamenco dancing.
